David Salomon

Investor and Entrepreneur, EWT LLC

David Salomon spearheaded the introduction of digital concepts to the financial industry. In the mid-eighties, Salomon led the equity strategies group of the risk arbitrage department at Goldman Sachs, one of the world’s premier investment banks and securities firms. At the time, the personal computer (PC) industry was in its infancy; computerization at banks, investment companies, and other businesses in the financial services industry consisted primarily of mainframes and data terminals. Recognizing the potential of PCs, David Salomon introduced them to his group along with some of the first investment-oriented algorithms. His efforts helped to spark a still-unfolding revolution in the finance industry. For 15 years, David Salomon worked in the field of energy trading. While at Goldman Sachs, he was part of the group that introduced oil trading to J. Aron & Company, its commodities subsidiary. Later, he assisted in bringing energy derivatives trading to American International Group, Inc., (AIG) and Bankers Trust. Here, Salomon recognized the potential of new concepts and made them profitable. In the early 2000s, David Salomon turned his attention to building companies whose procedures incorporated algorithmic trading strategies. In 2002, he partnered with Vincent Viola to found EWT LLC; soon afterward, the two co-founded Madison Tyler Holdings LLC. With help from Viola, the former Chair of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), both firms have subsequently become among the most successful in the industry. Salomon then co-founded FATTOC, LLC, in 2007 and oriented it toward the development of new algorithmic applications for the industry.
