Q • Ramkrishna Dalmia (1893–1978) was a pioneer industrialist and founder of the Dalmia-Jain Group. • Starting with a bullion business, he built several sugar mills, and went on to acquire Bennett and Coleman, (the Times of India group). • At the time of India's independence, he was among the wealthiest and most powerful men in India, with good contacts with most political leaders. At one point his name was being considered for India's finance minister. • However, in December 1956 the firebrand socialist _________ exposed in parliament how Dalmia, as chairman of a publicly traded bank and an insurance company,had illegally transferred nearly a crore rupees to his mill in order to fund the Bennett and Coleman acquisition. • In 1956 he was sentenced to two years in Tihar jail. • So who exposed Dalmia in parliament?
Feroze Gandhi • Feroze Jehangir Gandhi was an Indian politician and journalist, and publisher of the The National Herald and 'The Navjivan' newspapers from Lucknow. • He became a member of the provincial parliament (1950–1952), and later a member of the Lok Sabha. • In 1942 he married Indira Nehru and they had two sons, Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi, and thus became part of the Nehru dynasty.

Due to the imposition of Emergency. • The Indian Emergency of 25 June 1975 – 21 March 1977 was a 21-month period, when President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, upon advice by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, declared a state of emergency • under Article 352 of the Constitution of India, effectively bestowing on her the power to rule by decree, suspending elections and civil liberties. It is one of the most controversial times in the history of independent India. • Similarly a library in Calcutta issued a notice in the Statesman in December 1975, stating: “On and from 1st January 1976, newspapers will be found in the fiction section.”
Q • Near Chotila village, around 20 km away from Pali en route to Jodhpur,Rajasthan,is a shrine on the highway. • Every day nearby villagers and travellers stop and pray to the "deity" and to Om Singh Rathore fondly known as Om Banna. • It is said that a person who does not stop to pray at the shrine is in for a dangerous journey. • So who is the “deity”?
A Royal Enfield Bullet 350 motorbike! • The story goes that in 1991 Om Bana was returning from Pali to his native Chotila on his Bullet 350 when it skidded and hit a tree, killing him on the spot. • Villagers say after Om Bana’s death, the motorbike was taken to a local police station. But the next morning, it was found at the same accident spot. • Police initially thought it was a prank and after emptying the fuel tank they brought the bike back to the station. However, the motorcycle was again at the accident spot the next day. • As soon as the story spread, people in the nearby village built a platform on the spot where the death occurred and started offering prayers. • Many nearby shops offer incense sticks, flowers, coconut and red thread meant for offering prayers.Some drivers also offer a small bottle of country liquor at the site. • Local people sing folk songs in the name of Om Bana. The tree is ornamented with offerings of bangles, scarves and rope. • The temple even has its own priest who has been in-charge of the upkeep of the shrine for two decades.

He came directly to the market place and began to auction the footwear. As it was the Nizam's footwear, many came forward to buy it. The price went up. When Nizam heard of this, he became uneasy. • He thought it would be an insult if his footwear were to be bought by someone for a pittance. • So he sent one of his attendants with the instruction, 'Buy that footwear no matter what the bidding price be!'
