How did they help? • Solon was asked to reform Athens political system! • Cleisthenes actually stopped Tyranny! • Socrates was the Philosopher that taught Plato who…. Took Socrates teachings and came up with a 3 group system of an ideal city state.
What were some big differences in Athens from Mesopotamia • Believed in reason and debate rather than Gods. • Let the society vote on decisions. • Created institutions to run the city state.
Was Democracy really fair? • Only Citizens could vote • Only Rich Citizens with Slaves could go to the meetings. • So it was really an Oligarchy!
Ostracism • What was it for? • For people who were to rich and wanted to much power! • They exiled those people so they would not become Tyrants!
