Melbourne 2030 • State Government strategy for sustainable growth of metropolitan Melbourne to the year 2030. • Seeks to encourage higher density development into strategically important centres and new urban fringe development in nominated growth corridors. • Protects ‘green wedges’ of Melbourne (including rural areas and small communities) from inappropriate development and urban encroachment

  3. Urban Growth Boundary • Growth management tool introduced through Melbourne 2030 in 2002 • Requires support of both houses of parliament to be moved • Areas outside UGB considered to form part of the Green Wedge • No clearly defined review process yet established

  8. Council resolved to seek Ministerial Authorisation in February 2008 to prepare and exhibit Amendment C63 to the Melton Planning Scheme • The amendment involves changes to the Melton Municipal Strategic Statement, and the introduction of a UGB • Once the UGB has been defined, a detailed Precinct Structure Plan would need to be prepared to guide future development • Formal authorisation from the Minister for Planning sought in June 2008
