  2. Swing bridge on boats Leonardo describes a number of swing bridges often with military function. These bridges were to be built with materials readily available and transportable, with boats or barrels. By the use of a suitable winch they could be moved from and housed in a recess provided in the river banks. It was a system designed for rivers with calm waters.

  3. Float It is thought to carry material to be deposited on the bed of a lazy river and not too deep, so lifting the bottom and allowing the passage of troops. Usually this type of float could be built on the site itself using canes or wicker, and then covered with animal skins. In order to follow the same path and to keep the boat from water power, Leonardo drew a rope attached to the boat and attached to the two sides of the river by two pegs.
