  1. Hebrews 12:14 Holiness • Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord

  2. John 12:1-8 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. 8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

  3. The Response To Grace Considering the grain offering

Leviticus 27:34 Leviticus 1:1-2 These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai. • 1 The LORD called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock

  5. 1 Corinthians 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.

  6. Hosea 6:6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings Anytime we look at God’s commands we should be looking behind them to discover God.

  7. Leviticus 1:3-4 “If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord.4 He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.

  8. Leviticus 2:1 “When anyone brings a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it

Leviticus 2:11, 13 Lord emphasize anything? • The amount, 10th part of an ephah • The recipe, salt but no leaven or honey 11 “No grain offering that you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as a food offering to the Lord. 12…13 You shall season all your grain offerings with salt. You shall not let the salt of the covenant with your God be missing from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.

Leviticus 2:2 Lord emphasize anything? • The amount, 10th part of an ephah • The recipe, salt but no leaven or honey • The reason, a memorial, remembrance  … bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

  12. 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 Reminders are important, always have been and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

  13. 2 Peter 1:5-9 Reminders are important, always have been 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

  14. 2 Peter 1:12-13 Reminders are important, always have been Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, REMEMBER

  15. 2 Peter 3:1-2 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, REMEMBER THIS TOO!!

Deuteronomy 8:2-3 Lessons from the grain offering • A prepared voluntary remembrance of thanks • Represented giving away what we “need” 2 And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

  17. 2 Corinthians 9:8 Luke 14:33 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple

  18. Lessons from the grain offering • A prepared voluntary remembrance of thanks • Represented giving away what we “need” • Grain offering shows us a gift, appreciation

  19. 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

  20. We serve, give, and worship out of appreciation for what the Lord has done. To serve, give, and worship little shows little appreciation

  21. Hebrews 10:5-7 5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; 6  in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. 7  Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

  22. The first step toward holiness was the burnt offering, the atonement. The next step is the grain offering, thanks for the grace of God given so freely
