  1. ORGANIC AND PHARMACEUTICAL LAB Pharmacy faculty 2013 – 2014

  2. Chapter 4 Classification of organic chemistry research studies

  3. Course of study Synthesis studies Work-up(purification) studies Yield calculation Literature search Sources to obtain chemicals Qualitative and quantitative analysis Instrumental analysis (introductory level)

  4. Introduction Organic Chemistry research involves the synthesis of organic molecules and the study of their reaction paths, interactions, and applications. Advanced interests include diverse topics such as the development of new synthetic methods for the assembly of complex organic molecules and polymeric materials, organometallic catalysis, organocatalysis, the synthesis of natural and non-natural products with unique biological and physical properties, structure and mechanistic analysis, natural product biosynthesis, theoretical chemistry and molecular modeling, diversity-oriented synthesis, and carbohydrate synthesis.

  5. Synthesis studies Organic compounds that has been never synthesis before Strategy: Pharmaceutical chemistry research studies on the design and synthesis of novel drug candidate molecules is a good representative example to this category

  6. Organic compounds that has been synthesis previously :Strategy In these synthesis types is the discover of a novel synthetic approach that supplies high yields and the lowers the synthesis cost

  7. Work-up and purification studies Work-up Purification

  8. Which factors are important in work-up Reaction condition Reaction yield Chemical and physical properties(reactants, regents, products) Number of products and reactants

  9. Yield calculation

  10. Mechanism of acetophenone

  11. Literature search Why literature is very important? Notice: An effective literature search must be performed before making a practice in laboratory

  12. Sources to obtain chemicals Qualitative and quantitative analysis

  13. Instrumental analysis-structure identification (Brief introduction) High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) Ultra performance liquid chromatography(UPLC) Mass spectroscopy (MS) Infrared spectroscopy (IR) Ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV)

  14. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)Ultra performance liquid chromatography(UPLC) Qualitative and quantitative measurement

  15. Gas chromatography-Mass spectroscopy (GC-MS)

  16. Infrared spectroscopy (IR)

  17. Ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV)
