Exploring Gel Electrophoresis Techniques in Biotechnology
Dive into the fascinating world of gel electrophoresis with Project Wise! This project showcases the essence of electrophoresis as a method for separating biological macromolecules based on charge, shape, and size. Through hands-on labs, students engage with restriction enzymes to cleave and analyze DNA, contributing to significant fields like DNA fingerprinting and sequencing. Experience the excitement of biotechnology as we uncover genetic secrets and contribute to projects like the Human Genome Project. Join our dedicated team and make discoveries this summer!

Project Wise 2004 Biotechnology: Performing the Technique of Gel Electrophoresis James Rules! James is a biological all-star!
What is Electrophoresis? I wonder if they will find out I killed the lab tech. Bill Ryan is next! • The separation of biological macromolecules in an electrical field. • Separation is based on: • Charge • Shape • Size • Electrophoresis has many, many uses • DNA Fingerprinting, Sequencing. • It is used for catching the bad guy/gal • C.S.I.
Lab 1: EDVOTEK #102:Restriction Enzyme Cleavage of DNA • In this lab we used restriction enzymes in order to cut DNA at specific areas.
Lab 2: EDVOTEK #104:Size Determination of DNA Restriction Fragments
Lab 3: EDVOTEK #105Mapping of Restriction Sites on Plasmid DNA • The purpose of this lab is to accurately locate the genes on the chromosome. • This is used in the Human Genome Project.
