  1. D0 Taking Stock 06/2005 - 06/2006 Calibration Database Servers Stephen P. White

  2. Overview • Successfully running during the last calendar year • No major problems have arisen • Mature product with low maintenance requirements • 10 different types of Calibration dbservers currently running

  3. Farm DbServers • Farms can support up to 950 processes • New data is being produced with D0reco 20.03.00 • Some old runs are still using 17.06.xx • Compute power is expected to remain roughly the same. • Older nodes may be replaced but additional nodes are not expected, though desired by D0.

  4. Hardware • Production nodes • Two nodes, with servers divided for farms/users • Dual 1.5 GHZ AMD Athlon w/2 GB Memory • Failover nodes • Two nodes, one serving each production node • 1, Dual 1.5 GHZ AMD Athlon w/2 GB Memory (farms) • 1, Dual 1.0 GHZ Pentium III w/1 GB Memory (users) • Machines Aging • Purchased: 08/02/02 • Original D0dbsrv5 has been replaced. Except for the disk the hardware has been replaced. • Should the hardware be upgraded or continue through the life of the experiment? • Hardware is supporting current loads. No load increase is expected. • Contingency plan is to add new nodes and servers.

  5. Concerns & Plans • Multi-Run Data Sets • For each distinct run the client will request an entire calibration set. • Db servers may face difficulties trying to handle diverse multi-run sets of events from multiple users. • Possible solutions: • Double the size of the cache from ~20 runs to ~40runs • May require additional Linux boxes. • Add additional Linux boxes with large cache servers. Develop a load manager for distribution of requests. • Maintenance & Support • No requests by D0 for any upgrades. • The following should be upgraded: • omniOrb to v4_0_7 – currently at v3_0_5. • Python 2.1 to 2.4 – when SAM does. • Python_dcoracle to cx_Oracle – when SAM does. • Zope no longer supports DCOracle. • Currently running v8_1_7 Oracle client to v10 Oracle server. • Continue providing support for remote sites.
