  1. Dental Implant Education to Replace Missing Teeth Dental implants are devices that can replace missing teeth to restore a person’s smile and function. These titanium posts are inserted into the jawbone and the bone grows around them to bond with them. Once the bones have healed, a crown is attached to the post and serves as an artificial tooth. There are several different types of dental implant systems available and each system is evaluated by the FDA before it can be sold in the United States. These evaluations are conducted to ensure that the materials in the implant system are safe and will not cause adverse reactions when implanted in people. The ADA-approved educational program for Dental Implants offers a wide range of courses to help dentists and their staff learn more about this important treatment option. Courses can be taken both in person and online. Topics covered in the courses include oral health, biology, surgical techniques, prosthetics, practice building, risk management, current concepts and new technology. These classes are designed to enhance your skills and help you achieve success in the field of implant dentistry. A Certificate in Advanced Dental Implant Education in Implant Dentistry is awarded after completion of this two-year program. The program is intended to provide fellows with the requisite didactic and clinical knowledge to perform the full spectrum of procedures associated with advanced implant dentistry. The curriculum is based on the concept of evidence-based dentistry, and fellows receive instruction in both restorative and surgical aspects of implant dentistry. In addition to lectures and clinics, fellows are encouraged to conduct basic and clinical research under the guidance of a mentor. This research is an essential part of the curriculum

  2. and provides the basis for publication in peer-reviewed journals during the course of the fellowship. The program is taught by faculty members with extensive implant experience. During the fellowship, fellows receive advanced didactic and clinical education and are given ample opportunities to practice implant dentistry under the supervision of senior faculty. Graduate students who wish to continue their study are offered an optional Master of Science (MS) degree track. This program enables graduates to further their academic and clinical interests in implant dentistry by completing a master’s level research project, writing a thesis, and submitting it for review by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. To qualify for this program, candidates must be admitted to the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and must complete all didactic and clinical requirements. This includes completion of a research project, which is submitted to the Loma Linda faculty for approval prior to graduation and public defense of the thesis. This program is the first and only university-based advanced education program in implant dentistry. Since its inception, the program has evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of implant practitioners. The AAIP-approved curriculum is a comprehensive, hands-on training program that has been developed to provide participants with the most advanced information on surgical and prosthetic treatment planning and techniques for placing and restoring dental implants. The curriculum consists of a series of lecture-based sessions with interactive, procedure-based learning that utilizes individual case presentations to highlight important implant treatment principles and techniques.
