  4. H2(g) + Cl2(g)  HCl(g) Balancing Chemical Equations Write equation. Show the physical state of each reactant and product. Don’t forget diatomic elements: H2, N2, O2, F2, Cl2, Br2, I2. Count the atoms on each side. Identify any polyatomic ions. Add coefficients to make the numbers of each element or polyatomic ion equal on each side. Write coefficients in their lowest possible ratio. Double check your work.

  5. Ex. Aqueous solutions of silver nitrate and calcium chloride react to produce solid silver chloride and aqueous calcium nitrate.
