Enhancing Safety on Loudon Road: A Proposal for Improved Walkways and Traffic Controls

The proposed multipurpose pathway at Newton Plaza aims to improve pedestrian safety on Loudon Road, where current conditions are dangerous due to high traffic and inadequate walkways. The existing light and crosswalk are insufficient for directing traffic flow, and a dedicated crosswalk light is essential. Many pedestrians currently share a narrow side road, risking their safety, particularly at night. Lowering the speed limit from 45 mph is also suggested to further enhance safety for pedestrians in this area.

  1. Newton Plaza: the multipurpose pathway will start here. The light and crosswalk are very useful for the project however it is necessary to have a crosswalk-light that will better direct the increase of traffic.

  2. The side road is not enough for one person to walk on and it is currently being used by many people at the same time, which is dangerous especially during the night.

  3. The speed limit for Loudon Road is 45 mph which is too high considering there are pedestrians walking on the side of the road. Possibly by lowering the speed limit it would also be helpful in reducing risk.
