  11. Time Management • Schedule • Three levels of scheduling: System (working), Controls (management), Master (communication). • Owners: System Leads, LCLS Installation Manager, LCLS Project Office. • Structure: waterfall approach.

  12. Schedule Control: • Weekly Master Installation Schedule Management Meetings: review of schedule, action items, technical, personnel and safety issues. • Same for Weekly Controls Schedule Management. • Master Schedule organized both by geographical and system representation.

  13. Management Schedule

  14. Milestones

  15. ANL Delivery • A delegation from SLAC visited ANL in May, 08 (A. Alarcon, E. Carrone, E. Williams). • The outcome has been very satisfying: • An assembly line has been setup at ANL to populate the Undulator Instrumentation Racks (“Mini Racks”); • EIA are manufactured outside; • The whole manufacturing/subcontractor management process is very well organized; • LTT is remarkably accurate; • ANL has been doing heroic efforts to deliver in time.

  16. UIR Assembly Line

  17. ANL Racks shipping

  18. Undulator Motion Controls Installation • 16 pre-assembled UIR received from ANL on June, 16th; • EIA will be shipped on next June, 24th. • Installation is Davis-Bacon; • Begin: 6/16/08 – End: 6/26/08. • ANL has released a “Handover Plan”. • SLAC to follow a documented procedure for test and installation.

  24. MPS • Link Processor and Link Node complete; • Beam Loss Monitor complete; • A nice test bench is in use. • Complete: • BTH: 10/28/08 • UH: 10/29/08

  25. BPM • 50 BPM Chassis complete, tested and installed; • Cavity BPM Receiver Power Supply and Signal Distribution Panels complete; • Complete: • BTH: 10/14/08 • UH: 10/27/08

  26. PPS/BCS • New organization: Documentation Office (Leader: M. Saleski); • PLC firmware updated; • Critical safety software complete (PILZ).

  27. New Organization

  28. PPS/BCS • A LION mockup has been installed in the Undulator Hall during last week; • Complete: • BTH: 20/6/08 • UH: 9/30/08 (a little ahead) • Certification: 10/20/08 to 10/31/08

  31. Installation J. Murphy

  32. SLAC On-Field Installation Management • Daily tailgate meetings (by K. Ratkliffe/M. Zurawel) • Review parts availability, deliveries, acceptance, inventories; • Discuss daily work plan, technical and transportation issues, personnel issues and safety issues. • Turner and LCLS meet weekly for co-occupancy schedule integration • A set of procedures and documentation is available on line (sharepoint).

  33. Installation Management - Safety • System Leads are being “Green Dot” trained and certified by SLAC/TCCo. • LCLS Project Office has put in place a systematic procedure for construction area access. • A Pilot Project (BCS LION Installation) paved the road.

  34. Areas to watch carefully • Tight Installation Schedule • ANL is delivering in time. • MPS (new system); • BLMs (schedule, budget); • Downtime → PPS (Certification, upgrades, preventive maintenance); • Motion Controls; • Co-occupancy with TCCo.

  35. Summary • Controls installation expected on schedule; • Controls will not be in the way of the beam delivery to LTU in next Jan 09; • SLAC can count on the assistance of ANL system experts on site, if needed.

  36. Special thanks to the ANL team for working so hard to deliver in time!
