Motivational Interviewing • Express Empathy • Develop Discrepancy • Avoid Argumentation • Roll with Resistance • Support Self-Efficacy
Reflective Listening • “It sounds like your primary concern is...” • “I want to make sure • that I’m understanding this correctly…” • “What I hear is...”
Open-Ended Questions • Establishes an atmosphere of acceptance and trust by defining your role as one who listens. • Encourages the speaker to do most of the talking. • Encourages the speaker to explore her/his problem. • Cannot be answered by a “yes,” “no” or other short answer.
Trauma-Informed Care • Based on an understanding of the significant ways in which trauma impacts lives and ensures that services and supports are delivered in a manner consistent with supporting survivors of trauma
Critical Time Intervention: Basics • Time-limited with specific phases dictating type and intensity of case management • Goal is to ensure successful transition back into the community • Works by strengthening ties to services and supports and providing emotional and practical support
