  2. Who Are the Lions? • The World’s Largest Service Organization • Over 1.4 Million Members (Men and Women) • 45, 977 Clubs • 747 Districts • 208 countries Worldwide

  3. How Did It All Begin ? • June 7, 1917 • Chicago area businessman, Melvin Jones organized the first Lions Meeting (Note: Melvin Jones was never an International President) • October 1917, the first Lions Convention was held in Dallas, TX, with 22 clubs participating

  5. Mission Statement • To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Lions Clubs International Foundation • The Charitable Arm of the International Association of Lions Clubs—Major Grants and Disaster Relief • Campaign SightFirst raised more than $150 million for curable and preventable blindness • Many grants given to New Hampshire for major endeavors over the last ten years. • Melvin Jones Fellowship—Opportunity to honor and recognize fellow Lions or citizens of the community • New England Melvin Jones Dinner—Each Feb. • Campaign SightFirst II has raised $204 million, exceeding its goal

Some Accomplishments of LCIF • Since 1991, LCIF has saved or restored the sight of 27 million people worldwide. • Delivered 88 million doses of Mectezan to prevent River Blindness in 9 million people in 12 equatorial countries • Performed over 6 million cataract surgeries. • Established over 650 eye clinics in underdeveloped countries. • Is working to eradicate Trachoma from Central Africa.

  17. New Hampshire Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation • The Foundation provides sight and hearing grants to NH Lions Clubs for projects that are too big for the Club to handle on their own. The Foundation has an Endowment fund of over $750,000. The Foundation also raises money thru several • Annual fund raisers. Haunted House, 150 Club, Eye Ball, Twin State Soccer, Mints, and several others. The Foundation also raises money for the endowment by selling Granite State Fellowships. The cost is $500.00 and they can be given to individual Lions, other individuals, and corporations. • All NH Lions are members – Foundation is run by a Executive committee and Board of Directors elected each year at mid - Winter

Lions Youth Services (LYS)formerly Lions Youth Development of NH (LYDNH) • Lions Youth Services mission is: • to provide the young people of New Hampshire with opportunities for achievement, learning, contribution and service, individually and collectively, through sponsorship of activities identified as best practices in the field of youth development. • to coordinate and host workshops for Lions-Quest programs in New Hampshire. • Encouraging, guiding, and mentoring youth are investments in the future.

  19. TSSA Twin State Soccer Assoc. • Comprised of 44N 44H and 45VT • Holds Soccer Games for Boys and Girls in Jul – All Star Seniors • Fundrasier for NHLS&H and Austine Camp for the Blind.

  20. HSB – Health Services Board • Project of the MD • Does screenings for Sight and Vision and other health issues. • Includes Kids Sight, Dog Sight, and Vision 2xxx weekend.

  22. DUES STRUCTURE • International Dues………………………$ 43.00 per year (2013) • Multiple District 44 Dues $ 9.45 per Year Total $ 52.45 per year • Club dues may vary from club to club. • Some Clubs bill bi-annually

  23. Badges, Pins, and Crests • Each Club has some form of Badge • MD issues a pin every year • Some DG’s issue Pins • Many Clubs have Pins – or special event pins – i.e Anniversery, Charter, etc. • Crests designate District Officers
