  3. What is a podcast? • A podcast is an audio (or video made with a webcam) broadcast on the internet. These podcasts can be listened to online or can be downloaded to a computer or onto a portable audio player, such as an .mp3 player or similar audio device.

  4. How can podcasts be used in education? • Provide learning opportunities at a distance, self-paced learning, convenience for learners • Provide review of course content and/or extra content • Accommodate auditory learning style; create audio for sight-impaired students • Allow guest speakers the ability to present from offsite • Provide class, program, school information • Broadcast class, program, school announcements • Listening activities (lectures & note-taking; listening for details, main ideas, inference; listening cloze; listening to stories; listening to solve problems) and pronunciation practice (for nonnative speakers) • Student projects: any writing students do (prose or poetry) can be podcast; weekly or monthly class news podcasts, audio pods of field trips, for example
