  1. Seed Grant Funding Anne Schutte, Ph.D.

  2. Goals of my seed grant • First goal: to replicate the results of Schutte (2004) using the apparatus here at Nebraska • Second goal: to determine the developmental trajectory in a different SWM task, the sandbox task • Third goal: to develop a location discrimination task

  3. How I used money from seed grant: • Equipment: • Sandbox • Camcorder • Curtain tracking and curtains • Experimental software • Reimbursement for participants • Computer programmer

  4. How I used results from seed grant in my R03: • Experiment 1: used previous data in R03, but Experiment 1 allowed me to be certain that results would replicate on current apparatus

  5. 2 6 10 14 target location (in.) Figure 4.Mean error to targets for the two age groups. Positive errors aretoward the midline reference axis, and negative errors are away from the midline reference axis. How I used results from seed grant in my R03: • Experiment 2: Used data in R03 to establish that there were developmental changes in sandbox task at the ages that were relevant for my R03 proposal

  6. How I used results from seed grant in my R03: • Experiment 3: did not present data in grant, but was able to state that we had developed a location discrimination task that 3-year-olds were able to complete

  7. Timeline: • Received seed grant in January, 2005 • Applied for NIH R03 in October of 2005 • Currently in second year of R03

  8. Conclusion: • How I used my seed grant: • To replicate previous research • As preliminary data • To develop a task used in the grant
