News • Collision Hall Access • A special access list + D0 Hazard Awareness + Gert for now • Changes to MCH3 Power Distribution pending • Muon Commissioning Leaders • Post-Docs and senior graduate students with a big role in commissioning. Role is: • to assist in commissioning organization especially integration • to assist in shift training • Steve Doulas, Rob McCroskey, & Dennis Shpakov

PDT Commissioning • Gas System • At Present • Ar(80%)-CH4(10%)-CF4 (10%) Gas in 1st 6 PDT’s • Most PDT’s are leak-checked. • Design • Clean and Dirty Gas systems are finished (JK) and approved by HH, TD, KK. • Design for Gas Recycler/Cryogenic Cleaning has started (JK) • Running at full speed (4 liters per minute per pdt) in one pass mode is too expensive • Late Developing Problem has come up • 80-10-10 is flammable (barely) in air. • Considering mixtures of Ar-CO2-CF4 and mixtures with less methane e.g. Ar(82%)-CH4(8%)-CF4(10%) • For now - pdt hv is off until Monday (slow gas) at which time we will have 6 PDT’s on Argon-C02 which has a 1.2 microsec max drift time.

PDT Infrastructure • 58+/94th’s PDT’s have finished cables - remaining underway (no update) though I know Herman, Tom M., Carl Lundberg and Victor Bogyagin have made progress • Electronics (no update) • 90/94th’s LVPS’s installed + tested • 84/94th’s FEB’s installed • 18/94th’s Control Cards installed • Monitoring, Control, Readout • Hardware database increased to 94 PDT’s. • Plague of problems suppressed (SH, FB, TD) • COMICS download of Front-Ends updated

Data Taking w/ 6 PDT’s • All files copied to domino directory /prj_root/808/mtst_1/group_datafiles • Module ID problem in data • Some anecdotal evidence regarding crashes • Get more events before crash if less PDT’s have data • Get fewer events before crash if L1 rate is higher • Lately, PDT 121 seems to be the culprit (I didn’t always check which had died). • 104870, 104901, 104903 sent to reco farm. Probably a D0 daq milestone! • Short Term Plan for this week • study crashes in the first 6 PDT’s • commission L3 filter on events with PDT data • Reposition the adc and time gates a little later Tested positions. • add A-layer top east PDT’s continues

Aphi and Cosmic Cap • First (East side) of two central muon readout crates is stable and has been readout many times. • West Side has all connections and cards (borrowed FMU’s MFC) including VBD. I believe the PC needs a little setup. • Steve, Dennis, + Vladimir working on electronics pulsing and LED pulsing in local data-taking mode. • Plan for this week: • Change trigger from “or-of-ors” to “or-of-ands” for Cosmic Cap cosmic runs. Done. • Readout west scint crate Close. • Readout east + west scint crates together. • Continue to develop local data-taking and pulsing.

Data Taking w/ 6 PDT’s • 6 PDT Cosmics Runs • HV nominal, xad pipelines • 104809 -1467 events, FEB crashed • 104815 -1367 events, FEB crashed • CFG.dat confusion • 6 PDT Cosmics Special Runs • 104869 -543 events, HV for 111, 211 off FEB crashed • 104870 -4561 events, HV for 111,211,121,221 was off, ended normally. • 104871 -1051 events, HV for B-layer off • CFG.dat file: 211, 111, 221, 121, 231, 131 • 6 PDT Cosmics Runs • HV nominal, xad pipelines • 104901 -839 events, FEB crashed • 104903 - 340 events, FEB crashed
