  1. DISCUSSION What will happen to your cells if they produce toxic chemicals inside the body?

  2. Reading CATALASE & HYDROGEN PEROXIDE Chemical reactions make life possible. If these reactions are slow, we cannot do the daily activities. A CATALYST is a substance that increases the rate of the reaction. Living things contain their own special catalysts which are protein known as enzymes. CATALASE is an enzyme, a biological (organic) catalyst found in all living cells. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2 is a poisonous byproduct of metabolism that can damage cells if it is not removed. To prevent damage, it must be quickly converted into other, less dangerous substances. When the catalase comes in contact with hydrogen peroxide, it turns the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into water (H2O) and oxygen gas (O2). 2H2O2--------catalase--------------> 2H2O + O2 Catalase does this extremely efficiently -- up to 200,000 reactions per second. The bubbles you see in the foam are pure oxygen bubbles being created by the enzyme catalase. Name the substrate, enzyme and products of the above reaction.? Substrate:____________________ Enzyme:______________________ Products:_____________________

  3. DEBRIEFING Select blue coloured post it paper and note down what you understood from the lesson. Select pink coloured post it paper and note down what you want to know more about the lesson. Post each paper in their respective parking lot.

  4. H.W • Design an experiment to prove that both plants and animals have enzyme catalase • Hypothesis(predict the result) • Make an experimental design(procedure) • Conduct the experiment. • Prepare Lab report • and come to conclusion
