Historical Committee Responsibilities • Research into the history of HVAC&R • Conduct historical seminars and other events • Encourage publication of historical articles • Encourage collection of items of historical significance • Maintain a repository and catalog of literature of historical significance • Provide guidance to Chapter historians

Chapter Historian Plan Your Chapter History Night Program • July: Set Meeting Schedule • August: Contact Speakers and Make Arrangements • Send your program schedule to Regional Historian by September • Publish the schedule in the news letter and email to Chapter members. • Prepare a historical display for the meeting.

  12. Chapter Meetings Should Avoid: • Politics • Trade (Sales/Business Transactions) • Commercialism • Religion

Speaker Protocol • Treat Speakers & Distinguished Lecturers as Special Guests • Identify Equipment/Audiovisual Needs • Prepare Introduction Materials • Time Allotted/Program Planned • Audience Size, Room Size and Expectations • Maximize Speaker’s Full Schedule • Confirm Transportation, Lodging, and Remuneration • Send a Thank you Letter

  14. Presidential Award of Excellence (PAOE) • PAOE recognizes and rewards members who perform activities to support ASHRAE initiatives The PAOE Newsletter, Instructions, and Award Descriptions are available at www.ashrae.org

Awards for History • Lou Flagg Award • The Lou Flagg historical Award recognizes the vital role historians play in identifying and preserving the accomplishments of members and the industry. • It is presented at the Society annual Conference to the individual who prepares the most outstanding historical presentation. • Gold Ribbon Award • This Award was approved by Honors and Awards Committee and BOD in 1981. • The Gold Ribbon is awarded to Chapters for mounting on their chapter banner. • The certificate is presented to the Chapter Historian.

  16. Awards for History • Region I Gordie Root Award • This Award for History was approved by Region I Ex-Com in 2007 in honor of Gordon Root. The Gordie Root plaque is awarded to the Chapter Historian for exceptional performance and to the satisfaction of the DRC and the Regional Historian.
