Understanding the Nervous System: Key Functions and Components

The nervous system is vital in controlling the body's actions and reactions. It comprises essential components such as the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and nerves. The brain acts as the command center, processing thoughts and managing senses like vision and touch while coordinating balance, digestion, breathing, and heartbeat. Neurons are the electrical messengers that communicate signals throughout the body, delivering information from various organs to the spinal cord for action or reaction. Understanding its functions is crucial for appreciating how we interact with the world.

  1. Nervous System By : Alexia Mendoza

  2. Organs • The BRAIN • SPINAL CORD • Sensory Organs • ALL nerves in the body • NEURONS

  3. Function • Sends, receives, and, interprets information from all parts of the body. • Controls ALL movements.

  4. Functions of the Organs • Brain – command center ; helps the body respond , processes thoughts , controls vision , touch , and other senses , controls balance and coordination , along with digestion , breathing , and heartbeat. • Neurons – carry electrical messages that are the ‘’LANGUAGE’’ of the nervous system. • Spinal Cord – information from nerves go to the spinal cord and is processed to a action or reaction.

  5. Overall Function • The overall function of the NERVOUS SYSTEM is to control the body`s actions and reaction by receiving signals from nerves within the body.
