HOW TO IMPROVE ROUTINE IMMUNZATION By Dr.Taimur
CHILDREN WHO FAIL TO UTILIZE EPI VACCINATION • Drop OUT: Children having one or two doses but missed 2nd and 3rd dose Calculation of Dropouts: • OPV Drop Outs (%)=OPV1-OPV3 X100 OPV1 • Measles Dropouts(%)= BCG -Measles x 100 BCG
Drop out:contd • Dropout of TT 2 (%) = TT1 -TT2 X 100 T T1 • Dropout should not be more than 10% • More than 10% dropout indicates weakness of program which needs assessment and re-planning of program
Causes of program weakness could be as follows: • Non availability of vaccine • Absence of vaccinator • Deficiency of syringes • Vaccinator may be busy with some other commitment • Sickness or death of any women or child after vaccination etc
Drop outs in Fixed centers: Dropouts in fixed centers are of two types: • Children from within the catchment area of the center 2. Children outside the catchment area of the center
