Are You Taking the Proper Precautions? • School safety affects even the safest environments. Even in a small town such as Milford we need to take proper precautions to keep our students safe. Living in gorgeous New Hampshire in a smaller town one would think locking the school and practicing lock downs may be a waste of time. What about Columbine and Virginia Tech.? These were also smaller towns and communities that never thought this would happen to them. Taking the proper precautions is important and necessary in every school especially in this day in age. Take a look at the following guide and websites to make sure your taking the proper precautions in your classrooms. Remember, addressing even the smallest behaviors is what protects our school from the larger ones.
What is School Safety? • In the wake of high stakes testing we must remember the increased violence in schools. How can we protect our school from becoming the next Columbine? • While your taught to educate the “whole child” you must also be aware of the social and emotional aspects of your students. Getting to know their home life situations and how they interact with other students is just as important as their academics. Setting a safe environment in the classroom where every child feels secure and safe is the first step.
