  2. History of Tobacco • Tobacco is related to garden vegetables, flowers, weeds, and poisonous herbs such as potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, petunias, jimson wood, ground cherries, and nightshade. This family of plants is called Solanaceae • Native Americans in the eastern United States originally, grew an early form of Nicotine that was introduced in England and Portugal. the plant was being passed from continent to continent, when it finally made its way to the US, it was grown in North Carolina. But, It has been the preferred to as tobacco since settlers in Jamestown, Virginia, began growing it. From there the drug began being grown and dealt all over the US.

Effects on the users body Tobacco’s oral affects: • Gingivitis • PEDELAYED ALVEOLAR WOUND HEALING. • RIODONTITIS • Tooth Decay • Abrasion • Erosion • DIMINISHED BLOOD FLOW • POOR PERIODONTAL ATTACHMENT • INCREASED SALIVARY FLOW • Reduced bacteria in mouth • CANDIDIASIS AND MEDIAN RHOMBOID GLOSSITIS • SINUSITIS • ALTERED TASTE • APHTHOUS ULCERS AND FEVER BLISTERS

  5. Dangers in taking the drug increased risk of Inhaled tobacco smoke causes: lung cancer sinus disease chronic obstructive  lung disease • Cancer - lung, larynx, throat, esophagus, pancreas, and colon • Strokes • heart disease • coronary artery disease • Emphysema • chronic bronchitis

Legal Aspects • Penalty to minors: A minor who commits an offense may be punished by requiring 20 hours of community service, requiring attendance at a lecture or discussion on the health hazards of smoking, or a combination of both. • Penalty for sales to minors: this violation is a misdemeanor • Sign Posting:is a misdemeanor Smoking is prohibited in: • Government buildings • Restaurants • Public work places • Schools • Child care centers • Health facilities

  7. Reasons for taking the drug • Young people begin smoking usually around the age of 19 but sometimes as early as 12, they begin by seeing advertisements and peer pressure leading them to the idea that smoking is cool but once they start using nicotine they become addicted causing them to continue using drugs such as tobacco.

  8. Medical uses • Nicotine is useful when probing the nervous system • Useful in assisting the reduction of fractures and dislocations • Is a muscle relaxant • controls some intestinal parasites and worms.

  9. Type of addictions • When tobacco is used or taken in any form it acts on your brain and causes an addiction to nicotine. Causing you use more

  10. Average Cost of Tobacco • The average cost of one pack of cigarettes is about 10$
