  1. WELCOME! • Welcome to Your Future in Accounting • I am John Bongorno CPA (Assistant Professor of Accounting, Finance, & Business) • Today’s Topics: • Transferring Credits • Career Choice • Earnings Potential

  2. IMHO: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD COLLEGE • However, there are definite differences (including cost differences). • Some are better than others in specific programs. • My advice: Go somewhere where you will be successful. • Go somewhere you can afford, where you feel comfortable, and has a good business program that you will complete.

  3. QUIZ ON TRANSFERRING CREDITS • Which CCC courses transfer to another university (CSU for instance)? • All • Some • None • Which credits are LEAST likely to transfer? • Courses in the liberal arts • Courses typically taken in the freshmen year • Courses typically taken in the sophomore year • Courses typically taken in the junior year

  4. QUIZ continued • Which institution determines whether or not credits for CCC courses transfer to CSU? • CCC • CSU • When should a student research the transferability of credits? • Before taking CCC courses • After taking CCC courses

  5. MY ADVICE FOR THOSE ON OR NEAR A PATH TO THE CPA • Contact your future university NOW • In-person, via phone, or online • Obtain transfer guide or other similar document detailing the specific courses that the university will accept • Retain this document • Document all conversations • To maximize value, take at CCC all courses that WILL transfer from CCC to your chosen university

  6. MY ADVICE FOR THOSE ON OR NEAR A PATH TO THE CPA • You will follow the “Transfer Module” or “TAG” pathways and take at CCC courses that are GENERALLY freshmen & sophomore courses. • And only limited other business and accounting courses and ONLY after confirming in advance the transferability of those credits. • Obtain transfer guide to your chosen university NOW.

  7. DO YOU WANT A DEGREE FROM CCC? • An associate’s (2-year) degree has value … BUT • You typically need more than a bachelor’s (4-year) degree to sit for the CPA exam. • You are frequently judged by the level of your highest degree achieved. • Once holding a 4-year degree, the 2-year carries little impact

  8. DO YOU WANT A DEGREE FROM CCC? • Thus, those on the path to becoming a CPA don’t necessarily complete a CCC degree • Instead, future CPAs take ONLY the CCC courses that transfer to their chosen university.

  9. Visit www.tri-c.edu … “College Credit & Degrees” … “Transfer Center”

  10. TRANSFERRING CREDITS FROM CCC

  11. CCC CREDITS CAN TRANSFER • CCC is an accredited public two year school. It is ultimately up to the school to which you transfer to decide how your credits will be accepted and applied. For public colleges/universities in Ohio, courses taken above the developmental level and passed with a "D" or above must transfer to a receiving public college/university. THAT DOESN’T GUARANTEE THE THOSE CREDITS WILLTRANSFER

  12. RESEARCH TRANSFERABILITY NOW • Check the transferability of your courses BEFORE you take them. • Understand how your TRI-C courses apply to your four-year program to avoid taking the wrong courses or excessive electives. • Choose a college to which you want to transfer as soon as possible. Some colleges accept transfer credit more than others. It will save you time and money to know if the school you plan to enroll will transfer and apply your credit from TRI-C. • Make scholarship search an ongoing process.

  13. TAG: ONLY “TAGGED” COURSES ARE GUARANTEED TO TRANSFER TO OHIO’S PUBLIC COLLEGES Very few CCC business courses have been tagged. Note: Macro & Micro Economics are also tagged (but are not labeled “business” courses)
