  3. Weekly plan in 2004/1/5 • Last Week: • 1. preparing for finals of wireless、Computer network、Network programming • 2. NP final project DEMO • 3. planning the next half year schedular • This Week: • 1. finals : Wireless LAN, Network Programming, Computer Network • 2. prepare the demo of Wall • 3. Testting of snort • 4. wireless LAN project This Week are full of finals, sleep became luxury. After the final and two project, all the courses in this semester will be completed. In this two weeks before the chinese new year, I will finalize thing in this semester like Snort testting and GUI. Then try to find out what to do with wall in next semester.

Testting of snort • 4. wireless LAN project • This Week: • 1. Wireless LAN final Project • 2. Computer Network mini Project This week is the final one before chinese new year. About computer network project, I feel so urgent because the cinese new year is so late in this year. Everything doing in this semester need to be converged in this week.

Survey the open source solution of mobile ip with WALL • 2. Survey system research paper • This week is the first week after the chinese new year. We had lots of fun in the V-Mix last week , thanks to teacher let us have such a great dinner. In this week I’ll find the open source solution about my small function and try to understand my system research paper.

  6. Weekly plan in 2004/2/09 • Last Week • 1. Survey the open source solution of mobile ip with WALL • 2. Survey system research paper • This Week • Reading system research paper • Survey mobile IP situations in industry • After survey the open source solution in mobile ip, I find 2 solution may possible integrated into our Wall. • 1 portlant state : http://www.cs.pdx.edu/research/SMN/ • 2 CMU : http://www.monarch.cs.cmu.edu/ Both of them are implement on FreeBSD, the one from CMU support on netbsd already. I will try this two packet on netbsd 1.5.2 after the system reseach paper present. In this 2 weeks I’ll read the paper and survey some topic of mobile IP, especially the situation in industry now.

Determine the course of this semester • 2. prepare the presentation of system research paper • It is the first week in this semester. I will take 2 course in this semester(Embedded OS and Computer Network Experiment) , and may audit 1 or 2 course like Computer Architechture. We begin our system research paper presentation in the group meeting of this week. It is a good chance to practice present skill.

Continue preparing the presentation of system research paper • All My schedule of this semester are determined in the last week. At group meeting in this week, I heard three people present their paper. It’s my turn to present in next week. I’ll try to attend the 「logic reasoning」which teacher emphasize the most .

Continue preparing the presentation of system research paper • This Week • 1. try small function (mobile ip) on netbsd • 2. hear the symposium of openhouse • Finally I finished the presentation of the paper. I believe the presentation ability is a key skill I need to upgrade during this two years. This week openhouse hold several symposium about jobs I may take in the future. So I will hear some of them like III, Realtek .. Etc.

Weekly plan in 2004/3/8 • Last Week • 1. try small function (mobile ip) on netbsd • 2. hear the symposium of openhouse • This Week • 1. survey the small function (mobile ip) packages on linux, and try to build them • 2. hear the symposium of openhouse • 3. survey evaluation boards to work on Embedded OS • Wall meeting on this week, teacher encourage us to rebuild Wall on Linux. As my suggestion, Linux is much more fun and have more various open source solutions than netbsd. So I’m glad to hear this change. And we can treat it a chance to get familiar with all Wall system architecture (and also linux new kernel). After this change, our small function is also much easier.

Weekly plan in 2004/3/15 • Last Week • 1. survey the small function (mobile ip) packages on linux, and try to build them • 2. hear the symposium of openhouse • 3. survey evaluation boards to work on Embedded OS • This Week • 1. hear the symposium of openhouse • 2. hear the English writing skills by Prof. Lai • 3. present the project proposal of Embedded OS and find one board I will implement on. • 4, setup the development environment of Altera NIOS based evaluation board • After we decide to switch our Wall platform to Linux, thing become more and more interested. Mobile IP have various and stable packages on Linux. I will choose a package named dynamic-DUT or another implemented by standford. As I need to find a board to do hands on of Embedded OS. I asked Kuo-Kuan and got a board based on NIOS, I will try to setup it development environment.

Weekly plan in 2004/3/22 • Last Week • 1. hear the symposium of openhouse • 2. hear the English writing skills by Prof. Lai • 3. present the project proposal of Embedded OS and find one board I will implement on. • 4, setup the development environment of Altera NIOS based evaluation board • This Week • 1. discuss with weafon to decide the work of porting Wall to linux • 2. survey Embedded OS HW1 bootloader • 3. construct the development environment of NIOS board • I still can’t solve problem of NIOS development environment setup, If I can’t overcome it this week, I may give it up and try another board. But I still feel a little pity that no one can develop something on it in lab. Also, my hw1 deadline of EOS is coming soon, I need decide the board I will develop on it in this week at least. Linux porting work start in this week, I’ll decide my work before Wed.

Weekly plan in 2004/3/29 • Last Week • 1. discuss with weafon to decide the work of porting Wall to linux • 2. survey Embedded OS HW1 bootloader • 3. construct the development environment of NIOS board • This Week • 1. HW1 of embedded OS : bootloader • 2. survey works of porting WALL to linux • 3. training in Paralink for Azimuth’s WALN testbed on Thu. And Fri. (NBL) • The hw1 of EOS is bootloader, I can finish my handson in last summer vacation finally. I got the toolchain ready on Altera Nios board. But I find it is hard to get the last version of uClinux compiled on it. About Wall, I need to survey the packages solution in Linux. In this week, I have a training at Paralink in Taipei with Elia-Chen and Zhi-Xiang, Zhi-Xiang will stay in my home for 2 days.

  14. Weekly plan in 2004/4/5 • Last Week • 1. HW1 of embedded OS : bootloader • 2. survey works of porting WALL to linux • 3. training in Paralink for Azimuth’s WALN testbed on Thu. And Fri. (NBL) • This Week • 1. HW1 of embedded OS : bootloader • 2. start to install Linux packages for WALL • I got much more familiar to this NIOS board recently, I wish I can use this board to develop my EOS project in the semester, if I have more time , I will try to port a newer version of uClinux on it and setup Wall on it. Also , I need to setup the development environment of Wall in this week.

  15. Weekly plan in 2004/4/12 • Last Week • 1. HW1 of embedded OS : bootloader • 2. start to install Linux packages for WALL • This Week • 1. HW1 of EOS: bootloader present and implement • 2. Install Wall packages to buildroot • I spent almost all time to get familiar to altera’s EXCALIBUR last week, and finally I got a uClinux kernel 2.4.17 can run on it. In this week, I need to get a bootloader which can boot a simple “hello world” and my linux kernel. Also, the work on wall building the rootfs in buildroot can also use on my final project in EOS.

Install Wall packages to buildroot • This Week • Finish the open source packages installation of Wall • Finish my first experiment of Computer Network Experiment. • Survey the HW2 of EOS • Last week I spend all my works on bootloader. This week I need to catch my other class’s progress like CNE. About Wall, We will try to build a useful image in this week. During recent weeks, I can feel the busy temple always happen from the mid to the end of a semester. This semester I have many handson works, hope I can learn lots experience and principle from it.

Weekly plan in 2004/4/26 • Last Week • Finish the open source packages installation of Wall • Finish my first experiment of Computer Network Experiment. • Survey the HW2 of EOS • This Week • Install all my open source packages on snapgear • Write the first report of experiment of Computer Network Experiment. • The progress of install package on snapgear is not good, I can’t let Perl compiled with uClibc, I think I need to replace the Perl within it with the one I installed on buildroot. Time become less and less,I need to gear myself up to gain more efficiency.

Weekly plan in 2004/5/3 • Last Week • Install all my open source packages on snapgear • Write the first report of experiment of Computer Network Experiment.(done experiment only) • This Week • Write Makefile of my open source packages on Buildroot • Write the first report of experiment of Computer Network Experiment. • Write SDS of EOS project • Last week I finally got mobile IP system work, it is related to my EOS project and computer network experiment. I will write the first report of CNE (mobile IP) in this week and start the second expirement trace device driver. About porting progress of Wall, after several trial, I can’t get perl compiled on snapgear. I try it for several day, and I want to back the development platform to buildroot. Because without perl, many of service can’t work. I dicuss with others, they agree to roll back to buildroot. I’m sorry can’t let perl work, it is too many problem on snapgear.

Weekly plan in 2004/5/10 • Last Week • Install all my open source packages on snapgear • Write the first report of experiment of Computer Network Experiment.(done experiment only) • This Week • Finish 2 reports of computer network experiment • Complete totally 4 experiments of CNE until this week • Start to trace code of uClinux (HW2 of EOS) • This week we are all trying the experiments of CNE, it cost lots of time. But we can get familiar to many popular test tools on networking field. LIZX and I will complete mobile IP, CISCO, smartbit layer2 and smartbit layer3 , 4 experiments this week and write done 2 reports by myself this week. In the future, we’ll do VPN and Wireless.

Weekly plan in 2004/5/19 • Last Week • Finish 2 reports of computer network experiment • Complete totally 4 experiments of CNE until this week • Start to trace code of uClinux (HW2 of EOS) • This Week • Complete all packages of Wall this Week and build a usable image of Wall • Write my second report of CNE in this week • Trace code of uClinux (HW2 of EOS) NIC device-driver • I spent almost all the time of CNE in last week, and we finished with 3 reports last week. This week we’ll focus on wall’s porting. Before Wed. ,we’ll make a usable image of Wall. I have many many times leave the Lab until 5:00am in recent weeks.

Weekly plan in 2004/5/24 • Last Week • Complete all packages of Wall this Week and build a usable image of Wall • Write my second report of CNE in this week • Trace code of uClinux (HW2 of EOS) NIC device-driver • This Week • Prepare presentation of HW2 of EOS, What I do is tracing linux NIC card driver code. • MOE contest • This week I need to prepare HW2 of EOS until Thu. We will check the WALL system on Thu. and Fri. in this week.. And goto Taichung for the contest.

Weekly plan in 2004/5/31 • Last Week • Prepare presentation of HW2 of EOS, What I do is tracing linux NIC card driver code. • MOE contest • This Week • Finish a report of CNE, Layer 3 test of smartbit • Finish another report of EOS hw2 • After several days we “explode our livers”, we failed the contest of MOE. I think some of the points are as follows: • The first time 7 in 1 WALL is a very creative one, but 10 in 1 WALL in second year can’t be impressive. • The reviewer are EE/Comunication background, they didn’t interested in our FULL software solution.

Weekly plan in 2004/6/07 • Last Week • Finish a report of CNE, Layer 3 test of smartbit (not finished) • Finish another report of EOS hw2 • This week • Finish a report of CNE, Layer 3 test of smartbit • Do the last experiment of CNE, wireless LAN • Continue working on WALL • EOS term project • This final of this semester comes, we need to gear up to get maximum throughput to pass this month. About porting works on WALL, we decide to try another buildroot-like project solution called “leaf”. Wish we can get all things works on it this time. Today we heard about teacher will go to government to take a full time job, I think it is a good chance to see many different thing may not seem in acdemia.

Weekly plan in 2004/6/14 • Last Week • Finish a report of CNE, Layer 3 test of smartbit • Do the last experiment of CNE, wireless LAN • Continue working on WALL • EOS term project • This Week • EOS term project • Do wireless LAN experiment in NBL(CNE) • Write remain reports of CNE (2) • This week I need to get many many things complete because I will take a trip in 6/27 to 帛流. All remain work in this semester is 2 CNE reports and EOS project(present, demo, report). Also, I need to talk to 2-year seniors with the thesis before 6/25 meeting.

Weekly plan in 2004/7/27 • This Week • For Lab manger • meeting on Wed. • Prepare SOP of Lab manager • Make an inventory of lab fortune • Survey trip on 澎湖 • For research • List content based service overhead on CWJAN’s proxy • I decide to take the lab’s manager, and It’s lots of things need to be done recently. I hope we can finish Wall’s work as soon as possible, so we can concentrate on research.

Weekly plan in 2004/8/2 • Last Week • For Lab manger • meeting on Wed. • Prepare SOP of Lab manager • Make an inventory of lab fortune • Survey trip on 澎湖 • For research • List content based service overhead on CWJAN’s proxy • This week • For Lab manager • Bring receipts to 靜雯 • Buy an IBM X31 • Plan the trip of 澎湖 • Try to solve the fortune loss of lab • For research • setup CWJAN’s proxy in Linux (Mail proxy first) • Compare CWJAN’s mail proxy with and without RAMdisk support • Try new package Anomy • I found the time is hard to control especially after I got the work of lab manager. Many surprise thing may happen, and I have to handle it ASAP.

Weekly plan in 2004/8/9 • Last Week • For Lab manager • Bring receipts to 靜雯 • Buy an IBM X31 • Plan the trip of 澎湖 • Try to solve the fortune loss of lab • For research • setup CWJAN’s proxy in Linux (Mail proxy first) • Compare CWJAN’s mail proxy with and without RAMdisk support • Try new package Anomy • This week • For Lab manager • Try to solve problem for missing notebooks • Go to find some old and cheap notebooks • Clean rooms need to release • Cancel the order of X31 • For research • Survey the possible of anti-spam • Why the spam take more time than anti-virus? • Hard to get all things done well! I need to figure out what is the priority of many things and can’t be interrupt easily. About research, I think my problem will be useful but no research contribution,. Through I will not be PHD student soon, so I think it is ok but still a little pitiful.

In the group meeting, I will present the proposal of my paper work. The teacher says we need to take every presentation as a show time, a chance to show the worth of yourself.

Weekly plan in 2004/9/20 • Last Week • Decide the course I will take this semester • find some books and paper of my research issue • Complete Wall UI • Summarize all cost in travel • This Week • Finish Wall UI • Find some paper of my research (compression, buffer management) • The semester of my second year begins. It may be my last year to be a student. This week we need to let all Wall work finished, then hand it to 1-year graduated student.

Weekly plan in 2004/9/27 • Last Week • Finish Wall UI • Find some paper of my research (compression, buffer management) • This Week • Computer Architecture HW1 • Technical writing HW • Wall UI finish • Happy middle fall festival! I got 3 KG more than last week due to 3 round of fire-meet and lots of festival cakes. After this vacation, we need pull the mind back to research and courses. Before the Spring festival , I need to gear up myself to complete the implementation of my reasearch.
