A dolphin is trained with a basic positive reinforcement system. Each step of the behavior is taught one at time. Trainers teach each step by having the dolphin follow an object called a target. Trainers use their hands to guide the dolphins movement. To complete behaviors can take up to a few months to train. Click here to watch video

  11. Winter A Very Special Dolphin When Winter was just three months old , she was rescued from a crab trap her tail was damage. She was rushed to Clearwater Marine Aquarium , where she was cared for by a special team 24 hours a day. They didn’t think Winter would live but she did! However, Winter’s tail fell off which caused her to learn to swim with a side to side motion like a fish instead of the up and down motion like a dolphin. This caused he to damage her spine. A team of experts created her a prosthetic tail, just like they do for humans that loose a body part. It was hard for Winter in the beginning but now she is doing great. Winter became an inspiration to everyone, especially to children around the world.
