  8. Analysis The meaning behind “Passport” is that everything that Mahmoud knew about his home place changed. He himself changed as well. He got stripped of his identity. I think that the poem means that since he was stripped his identity, why should he have a passport, that has a picture of himself on there, if he does not look the same and no one will recognize him.
