ESPON Scientific Conference 2005: Progress, Results, and Outlook for ESPON II Programme

Meeting the demand • The bulk of evidence and knowledge already provided by the 15 finalised projects can meet a certain demand • At the end of the first ESPON programme the knowledge base is even wider • KEY: Capitalise on the ESPON results and make them useful in practise • Continued applied research on European territorial development • Further progress on monitoring, data, indicators, TIA and mapping tools • Enhanced communication, networking and dialogue

A future European Scientific Network Orientations for progress on a network in support of European territorial research: • Continue the cooperation integrating relevant European academic organisations • Gradually enlarge the disciplines involved in the networking • Invest in the young researchers • Support the process with more scientific conferences and/or participation in events organised by the partners • Improve the scientific acknowledgement of research done in future ESPON projects, eventually through peer reviews
