  9. Policy Overviews Drug and Alcohol Policy AES will not tolerate any employee attending work while under the influence of alcohol or an illicit drug. Consumption of Alcohol and other drugs of addiction, during work hours may possibly result in termination without notice, regardless of the blood alcohol level of the person consuming or possessing the intoxicating liquor or drug. Anyone who works at or visits a AES site may be required to undergo testing. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  10. Safety and Security Safety and Security is Everyone’s Responsibility! Contact your supervisor immediately when you have a concern about safety or security including: - Any unusual occurrences - Near misses or incidents/accidents - Chemical spills - Violent or aggressive behaviour - Unknown persons on site, suspicious parcels or boxes Report all unusual activities or emergency situations to 000 AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

Train Cleaning When cleaning in or around trains, AES staff must observe the following: RED OR GREEN COLOURS, IN ANY FORM ARE ABSOLUTELY BANNED FROM ALL RAILWAY SITES ALL CLEANERS MUST BE COMPETENT IN ‘LEVEL 1 TRACK SAFETY’ & ‘PANTOGRAPH OPERATION’ PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK ON SITE FLAGS AND BANNERS – the use of yellow flags and safety banners is mandatory ELECTRICAL HAZARDS – contact with 1500 Volt overhead system may result in death. Never touch any electrical equipment or train or track controls. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  12. Train Cleaning AES staff must observe the following (cont…): MOVEMENT ON PREMISES – Orange reflective vests and safety footwear must be worn. Be safe when moving around tracks. ENTERING AND LEAVING CARS – Use the fixed steps located below the middle doorways on all carriages. NEVER jump out of a carriage. Face the car, have both hands free to steady yourself. SLIPPING –Wear non slip safety footwear. CLEANING ENDS OF CARS – This may involve height work and the use of a ladder. Ensure the train will not move. MOVING TRAINS – Never clean a train when it is moving. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  13. Train Cleaning What you should do (starting work on carriages) BEFORE WORK a yellow flag must be locked into position on the front of the train. A Safety Banner must be padlocked in place in front of the train at the open end/s if you are working with a ladder or between carriages. When approaching the train, approach from the open end. Look down both sides of the train to check whether other personnel are around. If so, determine if it is safe for you to commence work. Check that pantographs are in position. Train Cleaning What you should do (Finishing work on carriages) - Remove yellow flag and banner and cleaning materials - Lock driver’s compartment doors, close all carriage doors and windows - Ensure pantographs are full, turn off train power, and lock Siding - Complete report What you should do (Working in pits) Work must only commence once track protection is in place Never go onto tracks until the flagman indicates the all clear Only work on the lines as indicated by your supervisor Get off the tracks IMMEDIATELY the flagman indicates that you should AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  15. Workplace Hazards Hazards may occur in a workplace which need to be controlled to prevent injuries occurring. You have a responsibility to report any hazards that you might find. Hazards are classified as either: High Risk Moderate Risk Low Risk AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  16. Workplace Hazards Report any hazards you find to your Supervisor. The hazard will be recorded in the Hazard Register and you will be asked to help find solutions to the hazard. If solutions can not be found – ways of minimising the risk will be implemented. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  18. Reporting of Accidents/Near Misses AES Employees must ensure accidents, incidents and near misses are reported and documented. The Worker’s Compensation Officer will process claims and advise Authorities if necessary. You must complete an Incident/Accident Report Form for every injury and serious near misses. You must update the Register of Injuries. Ensure that corrective practical measures are implemented. Serious accidents and near misses must immediately be notified to the Area Manager and Workers Compensation Officer. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  19. Hazardous Substances A substance is identified as hazardous by reading the label and the material safety data sheet (MSDS). Ensure you read the MSDS and labels and follow the instructions provided during training. If unsure of a substance – ask your Supervisor If you feel unwell when using a chemical – stop using it and tell your Supervisor AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  20. Using Ladders You should avoid working at heights wherever practical. When avoidance is not an option a ladder may need to be used. You should: - Ensure the ground surface is safe and flat - If the surface is soft a second person is required to hold the ladder - Check the ladder for signs of wear and damage - Reposition the ladder as required to ensure you can reach the area - In case of strong winds or heavy rain – stop work until conditions improve AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  21. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) A cleaner is exposed to dangers such as chemical spills, noise and excessive sun. These situations can be assisted by the use of protective equipment. Examples of PPE are: High visibility clothing/vest Clothing/Uniform Footwear Gloves Safety glasses/goggles Head protection Sun Screen Hearing Protectors Using the PPE supplied to you is a condition of your employment AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  22. Electrical Equipment What you should do: If you find any equipment or electrical fittings that are not tagged properly, or do not appear safe, complete a Hazard Report Form or inform your Supervisor immediately. In the event of Electric Shock: Before touching the victim,break the contact by switching off the current or the power point and remove the plug. Telephone for ambulance or medical assistance and contact site first aid person immediately and call for assistance. AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

Sharps Sharps include hypodermic needles, lancets, razor / scalpel blades or any other instrument which could puncture the skin The main risk of a needlestick injury is the acquisition of blood borne viruses such as HIV (AIDS) and Hepatitis B or C Never put your hands in areas where you cannot see your fingers, never put your hands into bins Never pick up a sharp with your bare hands AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  24. Sharps When disposing of Sharps: - Put on heavy duty gloves - Use tongs to pick up and put in a sharps container - Do not hold the sharps container while you put a syringe into it – put the container on the floor - Replace the container when it is ¾ full - First Aid Procedure - Wash immediately with soap and water and seek medical advice AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

Armed Hold Up When confronted with an armed hold up - Stand still - Keep your hands where they can be seen - Obey the offender’s instructions - Do what you are told and allow the offender to leave - Remain calm and quiet - Speak only when spoken to - Avoid staring or making eye contact - If safe to do so, observe offender’s appearance and any identifying features … AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

  26. Armed Hold Up - Stay out of the danger area. - Do not chase after the offender. Leave this to the police. - Observe the direction of departure and escape means - Call the police and give as many details as you can - Seal off the hold up area as evidence can be lost if people interfere with anything - Ask any witnesses to remain until the police arrive AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION

Emergency Procedures An emergency could be: - An accident causing injury - Collapse, unconsciousness or heat stress - Electrocution or contact by a machine with power lines - Major collision or vehicle accident causing injury - Fire What you should do: - The location where you work will have a map which shows you where to go in an emergency and who you should contact - This map will also show the normal entrances and exits, positions of fire extinguishers and first aid equipment. - It is your responsibility to read these instructions and know what to do before an emergency occurs.   28. Workplace Violence Violence is a major OHS issue. It is often random and unpredictable, but can be avoided or minimised if safe systems of work are in place. - Watch for signs of violence - Try to withdraw from the situation - Do not attempt to physically stop the person - Provide first aid treatment and record the details of the incident AES TRAIN CLEANING INDUCTION
