For example, the INDOT plans used in class differ slightly.

Title Sheet • Revisions • Column with dates that the plans were revised • Typically located in the bottom right hand corner of the Title Sheet The Revisions are located on the bottom of the title sheet for the INDOT Bridge Plans.
Key Diagram • Located on the Title Sheet • General Plan View of Road • Indicates how plan is divided on each plan/profile sheet. • Contains the Termini of the project • Beginning and End Points
Plan Sheets • Consists of a Baseline/Centerline • Contains all Horizontal Measurements • Measurements Marked in Stations • Stations based on 100 ft. Measurements • Station Numbers Increase W to E and S to N
Profile View • Shows Vertical Alignment/curves of Roadway • Not symmetrical, i.e. different grades on each side • Vertically Exaggerated Scale • Contains Station Numbers • Elevations • Shows Existing and Finished Grade
Plan Layout Sheets Plan View with Topographic Lines and Center Lines, Section Lines, R/W Lines, etc.. Profile View of Bridge located directly below Plan View, and taken along a defined section line.
Cross Sections • Located on a Typical Section Sheet • Contains Details about Structure of the Pavement • Shows Cross Slope of Pavement Surface • Shows Drainage Ditch Slopes • Shows Differences in Cut and Fill and Existing Ground Profile
General Plan Sheet • Shows Typical Plan View of Bridge • Shows Typical Profile of Bridge • Includes Typical Cross Sections
Detail Sheets • Shows Internal Details of Structure • Reinforcing Steel, Connections, etc.. • Comprised of Plan Views, Elevations, Section Views, Footing Views, etc. • Sometimes includes a Bill of Materials • Quantities, Sizes, Weights, Manufacturer, etc.

Floor Detail Notation for Reinforcement: 28 - #5E x 39’-6 Means: Quantity of 28 epoxy coated #5 size bars each with a length of 39’6”
Soil Borings Boring Log shows Depths of each soil type, in addition to water table level at time of boring and 24hrs afterwards, and number of blows required to drive sampler to each depth. Boring Plan with Location of Borings
