  2. What is a Run-on? • Two or more complete sentences run together as one. • Confusing because they do not show where one idea begins and the other ends. Examples: Sea horses are actually fish they have gills and fins. Some sea horses are partially transparent, you might not see them in an aquarium.

  3. Two Main Types of Run-ons • A fused sentence has no punctuation between the two sentences. • A comma splice has only a comma between the two sentences. Which run-on below is which?   6. How do I fix a run-on? • Do one of two things… • Cut it apart • Put an endmark at the end of the first sentence • Capitalize the first word of the 2nd sentence • Join it properly • Use a comma and a coordinating conjunction

  7. Make Two Separate Sentences • We had a big anniversary party for my grandparents, they have been married 45 years. • The Japanese restaurant is popular it serves crowds of hungry diners every night. • In the summertime that bush has purple flowers the bees and butterflies are attracted to it.

  8. Make One Sentence • Lee plays basketball he is also on the tennis team. • Ms. McIntire tried to grow tomatoes most of them were eaten by bugs. • Tomorrow we can walk to the beach, we can go to a movie if it rains.
