Set up in late 50’s. • Initial annual capacity of 1 million tons of crude steel per year, the capacity of Durgapur Steel plant (DSP) was later expanded to 1.6 million tons in the 70's. • Massive modernization program was undertaken in the plant in early 90's, which, while bringing numerous technological developments in the plant, which enhanced the capacity of the plant. • Production target for 2016-17 is 2.23 MT of hot Metal DURGAPUR STEEL PLANT

  4. Four Blast Furnaces • Presently BF#2, 3 and 4 are running catering to the requirement of DSP • Rated daily production capacity of BF is 1820 T of #2 & 3 and 2340 T of #4. BLAST FURNACE DEPARTMENT

  18. Molten Slag from furnace is granulated with help of high pressure water jet and sent to yard through conveyors • In DSP, INBA type SGP is installed in BF#3 and Russian rotary dehydrator type is installed in BF#4 • Granulated slag is a raw material for cement industry Slag Granulation Plant

  19. BF Gas is cleaned in the GCP and used as fuel for heating the stoves and re-heating furnaces of different mills • It consists of dust catchers, scrubber and electrostatic precipitators to clean the gas Gas Cleaning Plant

  21. Coal dust is a cost effective alternative of coke. It uses non coking coal. This coal is cheaper than the metallurgical coke. • It is 1:0.9 replacement of coke • The productivity of blast furnace improves since coal injection is accompanied with oxygen injection Coal Dust Injection Plant
