14. Consider whether something good or bad is about to happen on the bus and why you think so. The bus ride from school began as it does every day. Kids were yelling and laughing, and their music was playing. Suddenly, a dark cloud passed in front of the sun. The noise continued but at a slightly lower pitch.
15. Foreshadowing(Record in Reading Locker) Foreshadowing is the authors use of clues to hint at what might happen later in the story.
Writers use foreshadowing to build their readers expectations and to create suspense.
16. Look for shifts in verb tenses and locate clue words such as I remember. My kitten wakes me up each morning by licking my face. I remember when I first got Merlin at the pet store. He looked so tiny, all curled up in the corner of his cage. I fell in love with him right then and there.
