  1. REFLECTION ON ACTIVITY WEEK 3

  2. The Importance of Technology in Arts Education Integrating technology into art Digital apps and platforms are making it effortless for people all around the world to create new kinds of art, and upload, interact and share it in a global forum. While, we by no means suggest that technology replace hands-on creation of art, we took a look at the benefits of integrating the two.

  3. Technology as a creative tool • Utilizing technology as a creative tool is becoming more and more commonplace in creating print, illustration, photography, of course music and video, and more. • Tools, like Photoshop, GarageBand, InDesign and other types of 3D printing software are found regularly in many artists’ studios and have taken art to a level otherwise unobtainable. • We recently touched base with Swedish artist ZiggeHomlgren, whose background in oil painting and film allowed him to create a unique style of art that layers digitally manipulated print on canvas. • Digital artists, such as Richard Davies have been making waves in the art world over the last decade. His stunning illustrations can be found in Rolling Stone and Conde Nast. • Artists have also began transforming traditional art by creating amazing LED installations on small and large scales. Integrating technology allows artists to physical realize the potential of their imaginations.

  5. Technology in the art classroom • Digital art is not only for the big leagues. • Anyone with a camera phone can download free apps like FOTOR or Pixler to edit their photography. But what are the advantages of students using technology in the art classroom? • According to Education Week, Kylie Peppler, who authored a report commissioned by the Wallace Foundation favored integrating technology-based activities in formal learning environments. She argues, “In the perfect landscape, we see better coordination between schools and non-traditional forms because there is so much untapped potential. So many kids are exploring art on their own, and schools will hopefully find a way to support that learning.” • Schools are indeed, increasingly introducing STEAM into the classroom. With digital opportunities like Creatubbles Minecraft MOD, students can physically make their own creations to hang in their Minecraft builds. Teachers are also using apps like Faces iMake to create collage-style portraitsdigitally. Hardware, such as the HUE Animation Studio also allows teachers to take learning to the next level by introducing stop motion animation to the classroom.

  7. Technology as a portfolio • Digital portfolios are becoming ecxeedingly useful for students to save and share their work. • It’s great to have a copy of a painting or drawing to hang on the refrigerator, but digital portfolios allow students to access their work anytime from anywhere for years to come. • Creators can simply take a photo of their work, scan their photographer or create digital images to upload onto the platform of their choosing. • As an added bonus, platforms like Creatubbles allows user to see and interact with work from others all around the world! It’s an exciting time for artists who want to showcase and collaborate with others thousands of miles away. Technology makes it possible with just a click of a button.

  8. Student Benefits from Using Technology • Technology has only increased over the last sixteen years and our culture has become even more connected via Web technologies. • by using technology in the art classroom teachers can provide students with necessary tools for success in their future careers. • Art education has specifically benefitted from increased student investment, since students are growing up with computer technology. • Including interactive computer technologies in the art classroom can make learning more personal, accessible, and relevant, thereby possibly making students more invested in their education as well as in their art. • Technology in the art classroom may provide opportunities that will assist students in their future careers. • Benefits of using interactive Web technology is the opportunity for collaboration and allowing students to create online digital portfolios which allows more people to see their work. • Online digital portfolios, where students showcase their work, offer another way students can collaborate through technology in the classroom.

  9. Types of Technology to Use in the Art Classroom • The Web provides new opportunities for students and teachers that go beyond the classroom into various interactive forums and programs. • Curricular ideas can include social bookmarking websites, blogs, social media sites, and podcasting, to name a few.

  10. Social bookmarking • Social bookmarking sites allow students to record interesting places on the Web and bookmark them on a Web page. Bookmarks allow others to click on a link and travel to the site the student found interesting. This allows for idea sharing and collaboration as students are given quick access to interesting and relevant topics. Sites such as Diigo, Delicious and even Pinterest, although it is not quite a bookmarking site, could be used as tools for students to share with each other interesting art information they have found on the Web, if integrated into a curriculum or classroom environment.

  11. blogs • Blogs can become a journal and electronic portfolio for students. In addition to being a personal idea cache, blogs allow for collaboration. Other students can share critiques and comments of art work uploaded to another student’s blog. • Profesisional collaboration sites include Art Education 2.0 on Ning, TakingITglobal.org, Edutopia or VoiceThread.com

  12. Social media sites • Social media sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Ning, provide another avenue for students to share their work in addition to blogs. A creative way social networks are currently being used by students is through the creation of artist accounts for famous painters, sculptors, or other creative thinkers of the past.

  13. podcasting • Another Web tool is podcasting. Many podcasts have audio and video of artists, art educators and museum educators giving lectures on a variety of topics. • Podcats can be a powerful way for teachers to conduct the necessary research to prepare for teaching about a particular artist, to learn about nee technique, or to learn about art critic. • These podcats can be played in class as a supplement to teacher or studentpresentation or as inspiration for student artwork. Students can also create their own podcasts to share ideas with each other.

  14. ACTIVITY 1: Google drawing • Google Drawings is a free, web-based diagramming software developed by Google. • It allows users to collaborate and work together in real time to create flowcharts, organisational charts, website wireframes, mind maps, concept maps, and other types of diagrams.

  15. Turning doodles into drawings with Google’s AutoDraw • AutoDrawis a web-based tool that turns your quick doodles into nice and elegant pictograms you can use with your designs and infographics. As you start drawing, the application will start matching your doodles to its library of objects, in a similar fashion to the auto-correct feature we are familiar with when we type text. It’s pretty accurate!

  16. ASSIGNMENT 1 • Share activity, reflection using Blogspot/WordPress (Weekly) • Need to do slide presentation using Powtoon(Topic is about Arts) • Submit Dateline (16 October 2018)

  17. ASSIGNMENT 2 • Using AutoDraw and Google Drawings (Open Theme) • Submit Dateline : 30 October 2018
