  2. Purposes of Building Huts • Provide adequate housing for villagers • Restore destroyed homes • Earthquakes • Fires • Develop working relationships with villagers • Learn building techniques from villagers

  3. Pre-Service Process • Meet with village leaders to determine housing needs • Plan specific building sites • Assign families to specific homes • Encourage villagers to make adobes well in advance of service expedition • Plan Global Humanitarian service expeditions • Recruit expedition volunteers

  4. Building Process Overview • Level land • Measure and stake building plot • Dig trenches for footings • Add rock as footings • Dig mud pit and make mud mortar • Build adobes for walls, leaving spaces for door and windows • Finish with metal roof, doors, windows, and (if desired) external stucco and paint
