  1. VENDING TELEMETRY 26 - 29 October2005Professional Exhibitionfor Food, Drinks, Vending 26 - 29 October 2005Professional Exhibitionfor Packaging,Printing & Recycling Remote Monitoring of Vending Machines BUSINES VENDING FORUM 28 October 2005 Triada Hotel, Sofia

  2. VENDING TELEMETRY PROBLEM Problem - Inacurate data collection from vending machines Information is collected manually. Slow and inaccurate data collection results in lack of optimization, poor reliability, increased maintenance costs and downtime.

  3. VENDING TELEMETRY Vending operators in Bulgaria don’t use any connectivity between their vending machines. Specialists make a tour of the area where the vending machines are installed. Non-Bulgarian vending operators have used cable network systems till now, but they are complex and non reliable. Wireless communications give the vending industry mobility, flexibility and reliability in enterprise-wide operations. Wireless communications are recognized as advancedtechnology for vending machines data collection. ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

  4. VENDING TELEMETRY REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM What is “Remote Monitoring System” (“Telemetry System”)? A system that transmits data captured by instrumentation and measuring devices to a remote station where it is recorded and analyzed

  5. VENDING TELEMETRY NEEDS Two factors define the need of remote monitoring: - Coinless vending coming; - Exploitation expenditures decrease. The aim is one – profit increase. Similarly to all economical activities, the profit increase is connected with some investments. The investment into a system for remote monitoring of vending machines is the necessary investment.

  6. VENDING TELEMETRY SOLUTION A GSM modem is incorporated into each vending machine. It transmits data to a Control Center. At the Center, the data is recorded, analyzed and uploaded into an Internet site. Everybody, who is interested, can read the information.

  7. VENDING TELEMETRY SYSTEM SPECIFICATION • The Remote Monitoring System consists of two main components: • GSM modem – hardware that collects data and delivers it to the Control Center; • Software – installed into a PC that enables: remote data reading, automated data recording into a PC, creating reports, administration of field devices.

  8. VENDING TELEMETRY SYSTEM FUNCTIONS Remote Monitoring Remote Control • Change the settings in the vending machine: • - Price setting • - Coin routing • Card discounts • Energy saving trough programming of the temperature shut down at night-time Machine problems: - Downtime - Slow response to machine problems - Reliability problems - Lack of products - Poor logistics - Abuse of use - Slow manual collection of machine data Audit data: - Sales statistics: how many productsthey are selling in a machine, how long it takes to fill a machine - Cash received - Cash paid out

  9. VENDING TELEMETRY WHAT KIND OF VENDING MACHINES COULD BE MONITORED REMOTELY Only vending machines and payment systems conforming the standard for the Electronic Data Transfer, named EVA-DTS, could be monitored remotely. EVA-DTS is a global standard for the electronic transfer of data in the vending industry. EVA - DTS offers the possibility of exchanging information between vending machines and other equipment - portable handheld terminals, modems.

  10. VENDING TELEMETRY WHAT CAN EVA-DTS DO FOR THE OPERATOR The advantage of having a standard is clearly and evidently that the operator can read out data from vending machines from different manufacturers by means of the same data collector, and have this information exchanged with his own management system, adapted to his way of running his business. I.e. the operator decides which information he needs for running his business in the best possible way. The operator can make demands on the suppliers of vending machines and payment systems about which information he needs to have read in and read out of the machine within the frames of EVA - DTS.

  11. VENDING TELEMETRY RETURN OF INVESTMENT (ROI) Value can be gained from simple technology solutions such as: ·Fast response to remote machine problems, ·Through to more complex enterprise integration ·A change in business model to deliver service. Lack of real-time status information from vending machines leads to slow response to field problems. Vending telemetry solutions can help the vending operators to monitor and control their remote equipment via the Internet in order to manage their business more effectively.

  12. VENDING TELEMETRY A NEW BUSINESS POSSIBILITY The number of vending machines is growing up. It leads to the necessity of new service, named“MONITORING OF VENDING MACHINES”.This service could be your new business. The essence of the service is the ability to allow customers to view the sales information themselves over a password protected website. • Who is the client? • Vending machines owners (operators). • Who is the service provider? • The one that: • Can ensure good technical staff to maintain the machines; • Can achieve good organization for effective work.

  13. VENDING TELEMETRY MAKING PROFIT ON THE NEW BUSINESS The service povider can make a profit on the subscription to machines maintaining, offered to the vending machines owners. The source of profit of the new service is a higher level of customer satisfaction.

  14. VENDING TELEMETRY WHAT ARE THE OPERATORS’ BENEFITS - Sales growth - Minimum service calls - Cashless payment - authorizes the purchases by connection to the server; each cashless transaction is listed in chronological order - Ability to compare cashless sales to cash sales - by location and by machine. - Energy reduction - Meeting nutrition rules - Meeting HACCP requirements - Accounting - Marketing
