  1. Home remedies for yeast infection If recent surveys are to be believed, then as many as 75 per cent of women will have at least one diagnosis of vaginal yeast infection during their lifetimes. A significant share of this majority has many, many diagnoses during their lives – living with the discomfort, itchiness, burning sensation, swelling, and rash perpetually. So, that brings us to the question: What is yeast infection? Also known as candidiasis, yeast infection is a common complaint amongst women because of how easily the delicate balance of flora in the vagina can be disrupted. Ideally, the vagina is an ecosystem for healthy bacteria and some varieties of yeast that work to maintain a healthy vagina for you. But if the balance is somewhat altered by antibiotic consumption, pregnancy, diabetes, poor eating habits, stress, lack of sleep or a weak immunity, then the yeast begins to multiply unchecked and leads to an infection. What are the symptoms of yeast infection? As mentioned above, the symptoms of yeast infection are: 1. Vaginal itching, swelling and discomfort 2. Soreness 3. Foul smelling discharge 4. Rash

  2. Depending on the patients’ medical history and the severity of the condition, treatment could span anywhere between 3 days to 3 months. But there are some home remedies for yeast infection that when in conjunction with medical treatment may help relieve symptoms swiftly. 1.Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil is well-known for its anti-fungal properties. So, what some women find relief from is using a drop of tea tree oil diluted and soaked by a tampon to insert in the vagina for 4-5 hours. But remember to dilute the oil in carrier oil before application. 2.Yoghurt: A 2006 review of research found that certain types of probiotics may combat some of the yeasts that cause vaginal yeast infection. Many people report relief from eating yoghurt during the time of infection. 3.Coconut oil: Raw and unprocessed coconut oil can be applied internally or externally to help fight yeast infection. Coconut oil has proven anti-fungal properties and involves little to no side effects upon application. Win-win! 4.Garlic: This is the most popular one of all home remedies for yeast infection. A clove of garlic when threaded at one end and inserted into the vagina like a tampon and left overnight, can apparently do miracles. However, sensitive people mustn’t try it as it may cause some burning sensation and pain. 5.Oregano oil: The oil of oregano made from the wild oregano, origanum vulgare, contains two potent antifungals: thymol and carvacrol. Once again, as in tea tree oil, oregano oil can be diluted in carrier oil and applied internally via a tampon for 2-4 hours. Don’t forget to change the tampon every few hours. Please note: Most home remedies are safe for a majority of people because they involve natural ingredients, but we highly recommend that women dealing with pregnancy, STIs, and recurrent yeast infection consult with their gynaecologist before trying out any remedies.
