This is no rocket science for anyone, however since we are touching upon the subjects of appraisals, let’s understand how it works. Appraisals are a crucial opportunity where the employees shows the company his/her contribution towards to the organization success. It is a time when all your efforts are evaluated and rewarded. However, one thing that keeps us nervous during the process is the Bells Curve. Bells curve is a process of distributing the employees into 3 categories Top performers, Average performers and Non-performers. As per the science 20% is assigned to Top performers, 70% to average performers and 10% to non- performers. MDP also known as Management Development Program, help employees develop their organizational/management skills, either in a management role or with a management role in mind. From the organization point of view it is quite crucial to build the skills of the employees as they play a crucial role in navigating the organization towards profitability and success. MDPs give an edge during Appraisal: Now that MDPs are so crucial for organizational growth; individuals undergone MDPs are more valuable than the ones who have not undergone the same. This definitely doesn’t mean that performance can be bypassed. Performance definitely is the primary component required to be a top-performer however, MDP gives you an edge over other top-performers. Since the MDPs are crucial for both individual and organizational success, it is quite important to consider an MDP well before your next appraisal. How to choose the right MDP: There are many types of MDPs available provided by various colleges. However, choosing the right one is always crucial. The most important factor while choosing an MDP is the teaching methodology. An ideal programme should include learning through case studies, role plays and applied learning. The sessions should be interactive and involve problem solving activities. Apart from this, one should also consider the history & heritage of the institutes providing the MDPs, the type of MDPs offered, the profile of the trainers. These should be a crucial part in selection criteria.
