Greases are the solutions to the problems which are faced by various industries in terms of unexpected machine breakdown, high maintenance cost & more downtime etc. which directly affects production of the particular industry. These specialty greases are formulated in such a way that it will develop a tenacious low friction film with excellent load carrying capacity which protects components against external influences like load, speed, temperature range, humidity, contamination etc. Lubricating Greases comprise of various oils, thickeners & additives. Different grades of mineral oils & various types of synthetic oils are used as a raw material to manufacture greases. Thickeners are classified in two categories namely soap based & non – soap based. Additives are added to enhance performance of grease. All the raw materials are selected based on the requirements of application such as high temperature grease, low temperature grease, dielectric grease, silicone grease, rust prevention grease, corrosion protection grease, electrical contact grease, food grade lubricant, API 6A Valve Lubricant, gear lubricant etc. Grease is nothing but an oil held temporarily by a thickener. This thickener acts as a sponge; it holds the oil in semi solid state and releases it when the thickener comes under pressure & absorbs it when pressure is released. It is the oil which provides the lubrication but thickener ensures that the oil remains where lubrication is required. MOSIL also formulates industrial greases using solid lubricants such as Moly, Graphite, PTFE etc. to reduce friction. Solid Lubricants such as graphite, moly coats the surface of the components with low friction lubricating film.
