  2. What is Management? • Process of organizing and coordinating all activities to achieve objectives • Achieving goals in a way that makes the best use of all resources

  3. Functions of Management

  4. Planning • Core function of management • All other functions built around “the plan” • Evaluate where the company is currently and where it would like to be in future • Ongoing process- requires strategic planning

  5. Organizing • Follows the “Planning” function • Combines and coordinates human, physical, and financial resources • Assign work and grant authority

  6. Leading • Influence others towards attainment of organizational goal(s) • Motivate and communicate with employees • Problem Solving • Encouraging

  7. Controlling • Establishing performance standards • Compare actual results to standards • Adjust/ Correct

  8. Levels of Management • Supervisory (Lower) • Mid-Level (Middle) • Executive (Top or Senior ) • Virtual Workforce

  9. Supervisory • Responsible for a small group of people • Handles work assignments, timekeeping and problem solving. • Responsible for quality, motivation, and training • Implements the plan prepared by upper management • Reports to a manager.

  10. Mid Level Manager • Second level of management • Manages supervisors and/or may directly manage small groups • Responsible to turn top-line strategy into action • Reports to Executive management

  11. Executive Level Management • Top layer of management in an organization • Responsible for strategic planning and direction of the organization • Designs policies and strategies to ensure the organizations meets goals
