2. What is Your Goal? All students will be proficient in reading by 2014. Criterion for Success of this Goal: • 2nd graders going into 3rd grade will achieve a mean of 67% of the total possible points on the comprehension strand of the fall 2011 MEAP while accelerating the performance of students with disabilities so they achieve a mean of 54% of the total possible points on the comprehension strand of the fall 2011 MEAP.

3. One Objective from the Plan We as the lower elementary teaching staff, preschool through 2nd grade, will improve skills for reading comprehension across all types of texts. Action Steps Taken • Teachers in grades pre-k through 2 will utilize common retelling assessments that measure comprehension of all students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. • General education teachers, special education teachers, Title One reading teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals will work in collaboration to ensure consistency in instruction and assessment. • Teachers in grades pre-k through 2 will identify gaps in their leveled book collection based on student achievement and GLCEs.

4. Evidence of Action • MLPP Retelling Rubric is being used as our common comprehension assessment. It is being administered beginning, middle, end. • Each grade level created 4 new retelling activities that are used to strengthen comprehension. • Teacher had refreshers in MLPP Running Records, and Teacher Assistant’s have been trained in best literacy practices. • Gaps in leveled books have been identified and orders have been placed in order to begin filling them.

5. Is It Working? • Is the objective implemented to the expected level based on the plan? • 100% of teachers have created and are utilizing comprehension activities on a regular basis. • 100% of teachers are administering the MLPP Retelling Rubric and recording results in Data Director • Are the students making progress based on the original goal? • Comprehension activities are being used on a regular basis. • Data will be analyzed after the end retelling is given. Great strides have been taken to increase consistency in administration of running records and through the use of common MLPP Retelling Rubrics. Comprehension has a strong presence in our literacy instruction.

6. What’s Next? Completion of Action Steps: • Teachers need to determine Exemplars at each level of the retelling rubric. • Find Emergent Literacy training for preschool staff. Additional Action Steps Needed: • None at this time. Revisions or Expansions that may need to occur: • We need to make sure that goal strategies are focused on student achievement.
