  1. Athlete Service Coordinator A proposal for the name change of the Athlete Service Coordinator.

  2. Reasoning and rational for a name change:

  3. Looking at the role and the responsibility of the ACL: • · Describe the Athlete Advisory Council (AAC) and its role at Team briefings • · Describe the ASCs’ roles and responsibilities at Team briefings • · Discuss expectations regarding athlete behavior during the event at Team briefings • · Serve on the Games Administrative Board as requested if designated by the AAC Chair (the AAC Chair is otherwise a member of the Games Administrative Board) • · Serve as confidants for athletes to talk to • · Serve as a resource and support on other issues or problems as they arise • · Manage the Athlete Services Center(s): guest passes, athlete lounge, mail, supplies, room inspections, small gatherings, evaluation forms, debriefing • · Schedule and run Team Captains’ meeting(s), including for Flag Bearer elections • · Participate in the coordination of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies to help athletes walk in an orderly manner and help direct athletes in case of a security event • · Post-Games activities where applicable • · Responsible for ASC after-action report • · Assist with athlete ticket distribution • · Help build team morale • · Stimulate the development of an environment conducive to elite performance (i.e., quiet hours, keep athletes informed of services, transportation changes, help with supplies and luggage, etc.) • · Participate in Games preparation meetings • · Perform other duties as assigned by the Chef de Mission

  4. Description of the role: • Athlete Service Coordinators (ASCs) serve as support at US Olympic Committee (USOC)-sponsored events to enhance the experience of participating athletes. As experienced athletes, the ASCs are in a unique position to provide independent support to athletes participating in the Games. In performing their duties, ASCs act as the bridge between the participating athletes on one hand and the USOC and the NGBs on the other. The position entails many different responsibilities, including those enumerated below. In executing their responsibilities, the ASCs report to the Chef de Mission on all matters; the Chef de Mission can designate other staff or volunteers to oversee the ASCs on specific tasks.

  5. Create an identity and name that reflects the responsibility of the athlete serving this role for the USOC and representing the AAC.

  6. To eliminate the confusion associated with the existing staff title of an ASC at the training centers.

  7. Explanation for the name/title Athlete Chief Liaison:

  8. Because this is the role that we select for the athlete who will physically lead our athletes into competition representing all athletes in the USOC movement. “Chief” • This role will serve as the central point for athletes competing for any issues, questions or concerns in regards to anything involving them at the games. “Liaison” • They are a key element that holds all the pieces together for the competing athlete in being part of the Olympic/Paralympic experience. If they break/tear/ or do not work, it can prove to be extremely detrimental to the entire team. “ACL”
