  1. Mock Congress Quickwrite • You are a representative in a Mock Congress. • List, Pair, Share- What are some issues/problems in this class or at PHS that need to be addressed? Consider the greater good of all.

  4. Legislative Branch • Established by Article I of the Constitution, the Legislative Branch consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress. The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to enact legislation and declare war, the right to confirm or reject many Presidential appointments, and substantial investigative powers.

  5. California Senators • Our Senators for California are Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. • They introduce legislation (Bills) to the Senate.

  6. Our Representative in the House of Representatives • Wally Herger is your representative. • He introduces bills on the floor of the House of Representatives.

  7. Homework • Explain how legislation is proposed and passed in Congress.

  8. Quickwrite • While watching the video, try to determine how a Bill becomes a Law. Write down the steps as you hear them.

  9. Mock Congress • Read over the Mock Congress and Bill information. • Form committees of 3-4 students. • Choose issues that you want to discuss and write.

  10. Quickwrite • Why did you choose the possible legislation that you chose? • How did your group go about selecting? • How does your legislation benefit the whole group?

  11. Quickwrite • Use your homework, text, previous notes to draw a flow chart that describes the process that a bill goes through to become a law. • You may work together- be prepared to share your flow chart (write all names on the flow chart).
