Respect for Authority • Always respect the person in charge: • Address your boss by a proper salutation Mr. Smith, Mrs. Jones, Dr. Thompson. • Do not use your bosses first name without them giving you permission to do so. • Remember your boss may be younger than you, but still show them the respect they deserve.

  4. Diversity in Workplace • Cross-Cultural Communication • Is a process by which two individuals who do not belong to the same culture communicate with each other, either orally or in writing. • Businesses and organizations need diverse sources of talent and information to be successful.

  5. Guidelines to communicate effectively across cultures • Learn about and accept cultural differences. • Be sensitive toward--and tolerant-- of people from other cultures. • Be prepared for language barriers. • Keep messages simple and short. • Avoid • Slang • Jargon • Abbreviations • Acronyms

  6. Problem Solving • To be a great communicator you need to be able to solve problems in the workplace. • Steps to problem solving: • Define the Problem • Analyze the Problem • Establish your Goals • Generate a Solution

  8. Conflict in the Workplace One way to peacefully resolve conflict is for each side  • to come together voluntarily  • to work cooperatively on the issues  • under the guidance of a trained facilitator • Come up with a solution to the conflict!
