  1. Russia Sends Missiles to Syria Tysean Clark

  2. On may 16th, President Obama announced that Russia has delivered advanced antiship cruise missiles to Syria This moved shows that Russia is in support of the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad. Russia previously sent missiles to Syria called Yakhonts. But the recent missiles sent have an advanced radar which make the missiles more effective. Russia and the United States are planning to hold an international conference to end the conflict in Syria. American officials believe that the flow of Russian and Iranian missiles into Syria could buttress al-Assad and his belief that he can prevail his military. • I chose this Article because it reminded me of the Cold War. When the U.S. and Russia had issues after WWII was over. Russia giving Syria missiles could lead to the U.S. and Russia having problems again. Which I believe could cause another war between the two. Russia giving Syria is a bad thing because thousands of people have died. The conflict has too stop in Syria and Russia is not helping it.

  3. Legacy • The Legacy of this is that Russia and Syria were allies during the Cold War. During the cold war Syria signed an agreement with Russia in 1971 during the cold war to support the Soviets navy in the Mediterranean Sea. Syria has been negotiating with Russia to obtain modern weapons such as anti-tank and anti-air missiles to improve its combat. From 2000-2010 Russia has sold about 1.5 billion dollars worth of arms to Syria. As of 2011 Syria has signed an arms contract with Russia that is worth about 4 billion dollars.
