  1. Welcome to Calculus YirahValverde, M. Ed.

  2. What to expect ? • This will be an exciting class, and you are going to have the most memorable year you have ever had; as a result you will do very well.

  3. About Me • Welcome to another school year! My name is Ms YirahValverde. I would like to be addressed as Ms Valverde, please. Thank you. This is my 2nd year at CHS and I am looking forward to being your teacher this year.

  4. About Me • Outside of class, I go to workshops, conferences, in-service meetings, college classes and seminars. I also read professional Journals and work together with other teachers. So you know I am up-to-date in my professional knowledge and teaching skills.

  6. About Ms Valverde • I am a doctoral student in mathematics. • I love to teach! I enjoy teaching and I am proud that I am a teacher. So you can relax. You are in good hands with me, Ms Valverde • So

  7. Assignments • Every day as you walk in to class, I will have a short assignment (bell-work) posted for you. Please complete the assignment right away! • Objectives for the class will always be listed on the chalkboard. This includes assignments. • Thank you for following directions I really appreciate it!

  8. The Classroom Expectations • Please review the handout with me at this time. We will go over the parent letter and then on the second page we will discuss the classroom expectations.

  9. Some More Stuff • Make eye contact • Respect other; ideas and opinions • Do not save seats • Say thank you within three seconds of receiving something • When you win, do not brag; when you lose, do not show anger • Do your homework each and every night without fail • Do not talk in a movie theater • Be the best person you can be • Always be honest • If you are asked a question in conversation, ask a question in return • Perform random acts of kindness • Learn the names of all the teachers in the school and greet them • If someone bumps into you, even if it was not your fault , say excuse me • Stand up for what you believe in

Even More Stuff • When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying “Yes ma’am” or No sir.” Just nodding your head or saying any other form of yes or no is not acceptable. • If you approach a door and someone is following you, hold the door. • When we return from a trip (if we have any this year) you will shake my hand as well as the hands of every chaperon. You thank us for taking the time to take you on the trip, and you will let us know that you appreciate having the opportunity to go. I am not concerned with being thanked; I am concerned with teaching you that it is appropriate to show appreciation when someone has gone out of his or her way to help you.

  11. Procedures • Procedure for dismissal-Students, there is a procedure at the end of the period. You are to remain in your seat until I dismiss the class. The bell does not dismiss the class. You do not dismiss the class. The teacher dismisses the class. Thank You.

  12. Dismissal • Clean work area, push in chairs, and turn in any work. Walk out quietly without pushing or shoving. Or you will be asked to stay.

  13. Procedures • Procedure for Quiet Time- Students, I have a procedure when I want your undivided attention. You will see me stand here with my hand up and count down to five. On zero I begin to explain. • Tutoring is not offered to students who deliberately miss instruction.

  14. Procedures • Let’s rehearse quiet procedure. We will be working together this year so let’s get to know one another. Please look at the person to the right of you. You may have two minutes to introduce yourself and get acquainted.

  15. Procedures • Starting the period-Remove jackets, take out agenda and a pencil. Begin working on your bell-work. If you need to you may sharpen your pencil one at a time. Make sure you also write down your assignment for the day in your agenda.

  16. Procedures • If you need help raise your hand. • Studnets are not allowed outside during the first 10min after class has started as they will miss the opportunity for a warm up credit. • If you need to sharpen a pencil you may do so only when the teacher is not talking to the class and after instruction for the day has been given or at beginning of class. Only one person at a time at the pencil sharpener.

  19. How to keep your Math Binder • Everything we do in class will be kept in your “Math Binder” • This will help you to stay organized and will be used to show your parents your work during parent/teacher conferences.

  20. TPB(Teacher Pleasing Behavior) • Math Binder keep it organized and on your desk. Please No graffiti. Thank You. • Be in the correct uniform. • Be on your best behavior. Be courteous and mind your manners. • Follow instructions the first time given.
