  2. Is Urban Sprawl the American Dream or the World Nightmare? TASK:Basic: After reading informational texts on urbanization and interviewing experts on urban design, write a report for the City of Austin Planning Commission that examines the causes of urban sprawl and explains its effects on human populations. Support your discussion with evidence from the texts and your research. Advanced: Make predictions about how this process will affect the world as other regions become more developed.

  3. Is Urban Sprawl: the American Dream or the World Nightmare? BASIC CONTENT CRITERIA: The City of Austin Planning Commission is your audience. Answer the question and prove your point. Use informative voice. Analysis requires you discuss at least 3 causes of urban sprawl. (score 2) Discuss at least 3 “pressures” or impacts sprawl places on society. (score 2) The city requires at least one cause, or impact, must be an Austin or Central Texas issue. (required for score 3) Include at least one physical geography connection within your report (land, water, air, vegetation, wildlife) (required for score 3) ADVANCED: Go global to prove your point. Make realistic predictions about an actual developing countryin the world if they were to grow like the US has. (you must do this for score 4)

Calibri, Verdana, or Arial are good choices. Double space, and use a 14 point font size. Length is your choice. Include a realistic title, that reveals your viewpoint. Use paragraphs and subtitles to guide your reader. Follow English grammar and spelling rules. Include a bibliography of your sources using the MLA format.
