  2. DIWALI -Decided by the lunar-solar calendar. Gambling is encouraged, and the winners are female. Diwali is the beginning of the new year Fireworks and candles are lit to celebrate the new year.

  3. Ramayana • King was married to many wives • He banishes son to the forest for 14 years • Wife and brother follow along • At the end of 14 years, Ravan steals Sita(Rama’s) • Ravan fleas to Sri Lanka, Hanuman and Rama fight against his army. • Get Rama’s wife back and gain victory/kingdom

  4. Spiritual Significance • Diwali is the ultimate battle of good vs evil • Known as the festival of lights • Diwali is a time to make new resolutions for upcoming year • Find the inner atman inside you and reconnect with God
