Celebrating Diversity: The International Languages and African Heritage Programs

Since 1977, the International Languages and African Heritage (ILE-AH) programs have enriched Toronto schools, fostering cultural diversity among students. With 52 languages offered, these programs engage 45% of students who speak a language other than English at home. ILE-AH promotes connection to cultural roots, enhances language proficiency, and fosters equity and understanding. Supported by parents and local consuls, initiatives include after-school and weekend classes, community events, and ongoing professional development for instructors.
